Meet Deb Haaland, the Indigenous woman who might be the next Secretary of the Interior

The Joe Biden transition team is currently vetting Deb Haaland, one of the first Indigenous women elected to congress, for the Secretary of the Interior Cabinet position. Deb would oversee an agency with vast responsibility over tribal issues and public lands. If appointed, she would be the first Indigenous person to hold that role – ushering in a new era of Indigenous authority over stolen land. She would have the power to crack down fossil fuel companies and evict those who drill on public land.
